Interesting facts about the diamond
Meaning:
The name "diamond" comes from the Greek word "adamas", which means "invincible" or "indestructible". This name underlines the extraordinary hardness and durability of this gemstone.
Origin:
Diamonds are found in various parts of the world, including Africa, Russia, Australia, Canada and some regions in South America. They are usually formed deep beneath the earth's surface under extreme conditions of heat and pressure and are brought to the surface by volcanic eruptions.
Another fascinating feature of diamonds is their amazing age. Some of the oldest diamonds found are about 3.3 billion years old. In comparison, dinosaurs lived about 65 million to 245 million years ago, meaning the oldest diamonds are much older than the dinosaurs.
Colors:
Diamonds come in a wide range of colors, from "colorless" to yellow and brown, to rare colors like blue, pink, green and red. The color of a diamond is determined by chemical impurities or admixtures during its formation. Colorless diamonds, also known as "white" diamonds, are the most common type, while colored diamonds often have higher value due to their rarity.
